The LOGIC Project

The Milford Central School District in Milford, NY was recently awarded an Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries Grant through the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The grant will allow the school district to move forward with a project called LOGIC – Library Opportunities Generate Innovative Communities.  The main goal of the project is to connect our school with the wider community through video broadcasts. Our library graphics lab will be updated and equipped with the products needed to produce the video broadcasts and a video production class will be created and taught by Alexandra Wellman, the high school art teacher.  Students will create and broadcast news shows as well as the morning announcements. Seniors working on their required Senior Interdisciplinary Project will have the opportunity to create a TED-type talk if they choose to. Careers in the field of videography will also be explored, exposing students to the possibilities of furthering their education in this field and the opportunities available to them.  A collaborative venture with Elizabeth Rickard, the director of CORE (Career Opportunities in Rural Education) will offer the students interaction with the LRNG digital micro-credentialing platform, which serves to offer experiential learning in the field and create a more qualified workforce.

We are very pleased and excited to have been selected to receive this generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services which will allow us to provide new opportunities for our students and our community as a whole.  “As centers of learning and catalysts of community change, libraries and museums connect people with programs, services, collections, information, and new ideas in the arts, sciences, and humanities. They serve as vital spaces where people can connect with each other,” said IMLS Director Dr. Kathryn K. Matthew. “IMLS is proud to support their work through our grant making as they inform and inspire all in their communities.”
